Start with the right plant in the right place
Match plants to the light, soil, space and moisture available in each part of your yard. Group plants with similar water needs so irrigation can serve them more efficiently. Explore UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles.
Water for conditions, within local rules
A fixed watering schedule is not a substitute for checking rainfall, soil moisture and plant needs. Watering restrictions can change during shortages and may differ by jurisdiction and water source. Check the rules for your property before setting your timer; permitted watering days are limits, not a requirement to irrigate. Check current St. Johns River Water Management District restrictions and your local utility’s guidance.
Give planting beds a layer of mulch
Mulch helps retain soil moisture and reduces weed pressure. Keep it away from trunks and stems, and avoid piling it into a mound around a tree. Read UF/IFAS guidance on choosing and installing mulch.
Keep an eye on irrigation
Watch for broken sprinkler heads, water spraying onto pavement, leaking lines or areas that remain dry. Tell us what you notice when requesting service so we can discuss the repairs your system needs.
